Greece is wonderful in Oct. Hot days mid to high 20’s and cool nights – woolies are a must. And the sea is still warm. I would reckon it all depends on where you are planning to go as to whats still open. The smaller islands resorts start closing the first week in Oct and by the end of the month most bars and resturants are closed. However we went in the middle of Oct a few years ago and there was no problem with finding accomadation. Also a lot of Greeks were taking their holidays then. Prices tend to drop at that time of year as well. If you are island hopping be aware that ferry timetables change and some days dont run at all. Always plan on getting the early morning ferry out just in case of delays

Hi. [for those of you just wanting to read the questions of this post, scroll down! First bit is just some background stuff] My mate and I backpacked in the summer of 2001 – only for a month, but we travelled *miles*, across France, Italy, Greece, Sweden, Germany and Amsterdam at the end. Before you say it – yes I know, it’s not always good to see so much in such a little time, but we were 19 and had an *amazing* time. We went on an interrail pass, so were limited a little in staying near train-stations – but we were non-stop all month, and although exhausted, it was the greatest month of my life. And we want to do it again between Oct & Christmas. Been going to Italy ever year or twice/year for 6 years now, so although I adore it, I really should expand my European ventures! That said, I wonder if someone could answer some or one of these: 1/ I’m hoping that the weather in southern europe is going to be perfect; warm days and cool evenings, but is this true for Oct/Nov/Dec? I imagine northern europe will be like here (UK), but hopefully warmer and drier the further south we go. Having never been to Europe in these months, can anyone offer some advice? I imagine Greece should be incredible in October….less hot, less people, warm sea… 2/ Are hotels likely to be shut between Oct & Dec? Hopefully, in beachy places like Greece, we might be able to just sleep rough which is great fun (no mess obviously…), but sometimes a hotel is needed. I’m hoping prices might be really good as it’s out of season; again, any experience? 3/ Does anyone have any particular places that are *especially* good to visit in these months in Europe? Any answers to these, or just general words…anything interesting would be very helpful. Cheers Will
