Question:

Hi I’m looking for any numbers for student travel within THE US. I have called STA and Council and they dont’ do doemstic, they say.  The council 800 number i have is 800-800-8222, and can’t get anyoen to pick up the phone at either their Boston, Philly or NY offices.  Sweet.  So if anyone can give me a hand here, sure do appreciate.  I know there are a few numbers in teh "Let’s Go USA" travel book, but I returned it to the library before compnay down phone #s.  Thanks again, Karen.

Response:

I’ve used Council for both international and domestic flights as they had the best deals.  In terms of domestic travel, I believe they have two student deals with US-Air and America West (?) which let you travel a certain number of segments for a fixed price.  For example, in May I flew on US-Air for about $380 from JFK to Houston.  A week later from Atlanta to Monterey (via CHL&LAX) and then later on from Monterey back to JFK (via LAX&PIT). The phone numbers for their New York offices are:  (212) 666-4177, (212) 254-2525 & (212) 661-1450.  These numbers are often busy so keep trying. -Marc Wollemborg

I recently tried them too — but found out that they couldn’t do anything for me because I’m not a student (nor am I under 26) … Yet I just purchased tix from a discount agency that ended up being charter Air France tix — issued on Council Travel stock?!?!   In other words, they got me tix through Council! What’s the deal?   Why won’t they sell to me directly?                                         reb
