Travelling France » Travel France » Can I cancel Istanbul-to-Barcelona Cruise due to "war"?

Question:

I have British Airways and Norwegian Sky reservations for the Nov 6-20 Istanbul to Barcelona cruise. Any ideas on how can I cancel it without major losses? My wife is scared of possible war in the area… Can’t blame her. Thanks JD

Response:

>how can I cancel it without >major losses?

JD, Do you have insurance? Read the policy to see how much of a loss you could have. You are 6 weeks from the cruise but policies differ. Good Luck Norma

I just had to cancel my Norwegian Dream for October 3 yesterday from Athens to Greece because both my wife and my travel partner did not want to go. NCL charged me the 50% penalty since it was less than 46 days. I was given an address to write too and complain. I also let them know what other suppliers were doing. Air France refunded the air ticket, Brendan tours gave us a full credit for any of there tours until December of 2002. I asked for a credit to be used towards a future cruise. I just checked my NCL brochure and you are more than 46 days out from your cruise so your penalty would only be $400 per person. As for the air ticket call British Airways. We were really surprised when Air France told us they would refund the entire amount. BTW – If you do cancel the cruise remind them that there was also a suicide bomber on September 10 in Istanbul which killed three people including one Australian tourist and injured 17. Ian

This is not considered, at this time, WAR, and cannot be use as a reason. If any carrier wants to be liberal, that is up to them. One might consider a ‘medical’ excuse, if you have a ‘friendly physician’.
